Therapeutic Recreation

The Therapeutic Recreation Department is responsible for planning therapeutic recreation programs that enhance the quality of life of the residents.

The Programs include social events, musical entertainment, community involvement, physical activities, mental stimulation activities, spiritual, cultural activities and creativities thus giving residents interesting, challenging and rewarding therapeutic programs home away from home.

To accomplish these goals the residents have an opportunity to participate in the following activities.

  • Art Therapy – Painting with oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, paper art, string art to say a few. The art work is displayed in the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre Art Gallery and at Exhibitions.
  • Music Therapy – Music appreciation, singing, rhythm band, music therapist, drumming circle.
  • Pet Therapy – St. John Ambulance Trained Dogs, Dog Gone Square Dancers and other pets visiting.
  • Fun and Fitness – Daily exercise, walking club, yoga, horseshoes, active games, laughing club, dancing, massage therapy.
  • Spiritual – Church services, Holy Communion, prayers, bible study, meditation, celebration of life.
  • Social – Birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings, tea parties, fund raising dinners, intergenerational activities, campfires.
  • Outing – Picnics, strawberry picking, eating in restaurants, visiting farms, festivals, theatres, garden parties, fishing, swimming, shopping, scenic rides, balloon festivals, Irving Nature Park, Fundy Trail.
  • Celebrations – Tribute to residents, resident family Christmas dinner, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Queen Victoria Tea, Canada Day, Remembrance Day.
  • Hobbies – Gardening, Book Club, watching movies, surfing the net, crocheting, knitting, cooking, woodworking.

A van equipped with hydraulic lift is available for residents to utilize for community events outside the Snow Centre.

The Therapeutic Recreation Department also coordinates amazing volunteers who help, participate and facilitate the wide variety of programs.
